Iona College show!

Next Wednesday (3/4/2009) I will be performing a couple songs at Iona College for their talent show. Tickets are 3 $ a piece and all proceeds will be going towards St. Judes hospital. The show is from 6:30-9:30 do if you want to see a dope show, swing through! I know a few of the other acts all which are talented artists as well, so come on by and support good local and indie music!

In other news, RateYourDemo.com switched my name to Rumorz on the site, so now i'm up in the top reviews as Rumorz instead of Greg Perry.

In the other post I mentioned how I had gotten that dope review from Cool and Dre, and they put me up third on their Top Reviews category on their website. I urge up and coming artists to check out the site, and if you are a rapper or producer, put your shit on their and get professional criticism. It never hurts to hear what you can improve.

Ok. So it's been a minute since I've posted. I got no real good excuse why I have not posted at all, I have been busy with school but still no excuse. But I'm going to get the ball rolling again. For those wondering about the album, don't worry it's coming. It's annoying getting ll the pieces to fit in order to get this out especially since most of things I need done would be a lot easier if I was in Boston and not NY, but it's all good. In other news, I mentioned RateYourDemo.com a while back, a site where you submit your music to Cool and Dre for review. I got the results back and figured i'd share the review with you I'm pretty excited to hear their thoughts because I'm always anxious to hear what people in the Biz think of my shit because I personally think it matches any professional quality work. so here it is: (yea it's under Greg not Rumorz, for those who don't know that's me..)

Greg, what it do homie... Aight, so we gonna break it down for you track by track: 1. Reality TV (RANKING: 8) Reality TV has a dope vibe. Has kind of a rock vibe to it. The use of the piano sample is really cool. Good work on the side of the producer. The concept of the record is dope. The flow and delivery on the verses is on point. The hook is dope. This remind us of something Xzibit would have done. Good work!! 2. The Entertainer (RANKING: 7) This is totally a different vibe then the first record. Some club shit for the ladies. We are glad to hear you can be versatile. The Entertainer title is dope! The hook is on point! Good work on the the verses as well. You got great delivery my nigga! 3. Droppin' Names (RANKING: 7) Deep cover!!!!!!!!! Twins!!!! Classic material homie! You held your own these verses. We always tell artists that if you are gonna rap over a classic beat you better hold your own. You did that homie! You were a perfect example. A hook on this would have made this ever crazier!! Good work thou homie!! 4. Kill That Bitch (RANKING: 7) This beat has a dope intro. We like the piano line on this. This is on some Scott Storch LA type shit. We like the fact that you sang on the hook. That gave the song a good contras. This is the stalker anthem of 09... lol!! Good concept homie. This will def have people talkin... 5. Hard to Find (RANKING: 9) First off, you pick good beats homie!! This record has the best vibe of all the other records. The sample is crazy!! Whoever produced this did their job. The first verse was dope. The sample in the hook is crazy!! You killed this homie!! Always play this record first. We also like the fact that you toned down your delivery on this record a bit. You weren't as aggressive as the other records. Nice work and this is by far your best overall effort. OVERALL ANALYSIS: Like we said, you pick good beats! You gotta a great voice. We would love to hear more of your tracks. I don't know how many of you are fans of fantastic guitar-work.... but I always appreciate someone who "can play the guitar like a mutha fuckin' riot" (to quote Sublime)...And thanks to the best site of all time (YouTube), I came across this guy a while back, and he is probably the most talented person I have ever seen with an acoustic guitar in his hand. The sounds he gets out of an acoustic is ridiculous. So check him our and be amazed...

As you know, I try not to write about exclusively hip hop stuff because honestly I'm not really interested in what is going on with most of the rap game. A lot of it is just childish bullshit now a days, and so yea i branch out. Here is a group that really preforms live good. Check any of their videos on Youtube and you won't be disappointed. Three Legged Fox classifies their sound as organic roots rock, and by listening to them i'd say they are basically a little bit of soul mixed with reggae. Their guitar work reminds me a little bit of the Spin Doctors (Two Princes, Little Miss Can't be Wrong) but their singer has a pretty unique soothing voice. Def a talented band, and pretty young too. I actually discovered them by looking up covers of Everlast's What it's Like, and I can't stop listening to that cover! Check em' out!

I Suck

Okay so lately I've reallllyyy sucked at posting but I have a few legitimate reasons. First off I didn't have internet in my apartment for two weeks...Also I been busy as hell with school semester coming to a close. But on a good note, the album is now complete! I got all the art work completely done and am now waiting on the final mixing and mastering to be done by my producer. Speaking of that, for those who don't know my producer NellyProtoolz was nominated for Boston Hip Hop Producer of the year! It's good to see cuz he been grindin' harder then ever and he definitely deserves the nomination. It should be tough going up against Statik Selektah who has also had one hell of a year. But yea the album should be out the end of this month so look out for that shit! Also Now under construction is RUMORZMUSIC.COM. That is just one of the many things I've been working on to get shit poppin' with all things Rumorz.

Updates....

Heres a few updates on what is going on lately. I know I havnt been doing as much with the blog but i've been busy as hell with school and doing a shitload of shit to promote Rumorz and get my next cd out there. It has taken longer than I expected just because I have been waiting on getting another collaboration going on, and I'm not very good at getting those going on just because I dunno maybe I work better alone. But anyways heres whats been going on with me...

-I'm working on the cover of the album. I've been in talks with a certain agency and gotten a quote on what it will cost and am going to probably have the cover done within the next two weeks.

- I'm creating shirts. I've already made the design and had it printed and sent to me. Now i'm looking for a cheap place to make plenty of copies.

-I've bought the domain name Rumorzmusic.com and am looking for a well priced web designer to get the site up and running. Let me know if u know anyone!!!

-I have finished writing the final song, and will be recording it come thanksgiving break.


All of these are efforts to build the world of Rumorz and help you the fans keep in touch

Listen to em': Demun Jones

Demun Jones has been on tour with the recently popularized Rehab and making quite a name for himself down south. His style is a mix of southern rock and hip hop, and he tours with a band and often has collaborations with Rehabs lead singer. When I first came across him a few weeks ago I was mad excited to hear his music, because rapping-with-guitars style is similar to what I want to establish.

Just for fun, here's a thought experiment. It illustrates that things in the world of music (and the business of music) need not necessarily be configured the way they are...

If music was treated like sport:

• Schools would have plenty of equipment and kids would have places to play and practice
• People who didn't do any music at all would be considered a bit lazy by their peers
• Professional musicians wouldn't get asked by their parents when they were going to get a real job
• Most people would play music and almost none of them would expect money for it
• Every weekend, you'd get a televised battle of the bands
• Players in top acts would change bands for millions of dollars
• Every four years, the best amateur acts would come together for the largest music festival on earth
• There'd be significant funding for community music programmes
• Most bands would have coaches as well as managers (and a physiotherapist?)
• Schools, pubs, churches, villages, and even workplaces would have their own bands
• If you went to a gig with a videocamera, you wouldn't be considered a thief
• Big acts would sell season tickets at their own venues
• Government-funded television campaigns would encourage non-musicians to take up an instrument and practice for just 30 minutes a day...
• Children from the age of 6 would know all the stats on their favourite bands
• There'd be movies where people escaped from POW camps by playing the guitar
• TV channels would get into bidding wars for the rights to show concerts
• All the top bands would regularly hold auditions for new members
• You'd join your first band at the age of five
• The more musically inclined would routinely play in different bands in different genres
• Audiences would bet on the outcome of concerts
• University scholarships would be awarded on musical aptitude
• Kids would dream of one day representing their country in Hip Hop
• You'd play another genre of music in Summer - jazz is a Winter music
• Band members would switch instruments from time to time (she's been on drums all season - let's give her a turn on vocals)
• Bands would have reserves
• You could swap out every member of a group and it'd still be the same band
• In American teen films, trombonists would beat up the kid who got picked last for the orchestra

And so on... Of course music is not sport. It's not even like sport. But it's interesting to think through the things that we do in a different field of human endeavour, and realise that the way that we approach music and the business of music is not a logical necessity - it's just how we've chosen to put it together.

And since that's true, we can choose to do it a different way.

Personally, I like the idea of some of these outcomes. Especially the first one. I'm sure you can add some of your own too.

In honor of the event going on today, and most likely what will be the election of our first black president, I decided Tick Daddy's new song Change would be fitting. Now despite the connection it is a pretty good song regardless, I don't know if I would exactly bump it but it has a good message so check it out...

Sorry I'm a few days behind but Halloween got me all backwards so today I'm posting the YouTube clip of the week.

Don't worry it's a great one. If you have never seen this video, it will bring you back to the 80's instantly. This is the hilarious video by Ray Parker Jr. performing the Ghostbusters Theme Song. Besides a bunch of really bad cameos, the video has two funny defining moments. One is at about 2:56 when Ray admits that "Busting makes him feel good" and the second being a few seconds later when he rips his front shirt off to reveal a Ghostbusters shirt underneath. Ah, the 80's....
