Bull shit and Road Trips

I have to first apologize since it has been a while since I posted, but I don't have a computer right now and Best Buy is pretty much taking their time to fix it. So until then i am only accessing the internet through one of my colleges computers, which are limited since the big library is under construction ( good timing Iona). Anyways what i've been spending most my time doing is working to earn some money back I spent in Australia and basically all summer on various things (mostly alcohol, beats, studio time and food). I've been talking with my boy from the Bronx a producer by the name of Jorge and been looking into finding some good spots to perform in New York City. He has given me a few places which I intend on checking out soon once school settles in and I am less busy with all this random shit in my life. In other things this weekend I'm taking a road trip out to Notre Dame to visit a bunch of friends I met while in Australia. I can't wait cuz they also got me and my friends coming up tickets to the Notre Dame-Michigan game. I'm not a HUGE college football fan, but these are two schools I would LOVE to see play. Besides them I'd say USC and Texas are the only to college football teams I'd want to see. Either way those type of games have a sick atmosphere and at legendary Notre Dame, it should be sick.

That got me thinking it's sad how little people take road trips now a days. It sucks because Europeans are constantly traveling at a young age from place to place backpacking, and it just sucks tht Americas culture is focused soooo much on success and and earning money that we lose the chance to see their own country. I've made a few road trips over the years and I try to see as much as I can, usually the only thing stopping me is a lack of people wanting to go with me. Oh yea, and the 200 + dollar tickets I seem to get on the trips (long straight road+late at night + trying to shave time off 11 hours trips = getting pulled over every time).

So yea I encourage people to take road trips while they can and before gas is like 7 dollars a gallon. Take a train, a plane or anything.... just do it.

Back to reality

Yea so it's been a minute since I've been back in NY for the school thing... but after an ill time in Australia and a fun summer it's back to reality. To be honest i'm sort of glad to get back into an actual schedule and all that, because I honestly have been getting lazy and not nearly as motivated as I usually am. Australia made me more laid back which is good, but I gotta know when to change gears. I'm not looking forward to people giving me shit for the Pats either cuz I give people so much shit for the Sox so yea that's gonna suck.

As for Crocodile Tears, the album is pretty much done recording wise. Now it's just working on the cover, getting rights to the beats and then of course making copies of all the cds. I've already been working on getting everything approved for online distribution so that shouldn't be a problem either.

Besides that I just got a new guitar and have been working on getting my skills up. So yea if anyone got any beginners tips for me let me know because once the album is completely done that will be my main focus besides school. I think it is important to know how to play some instruments, especially if I'm going to eventually work with live music which is what I want to do.

Crocodile Tears updates...

So today I got a studio session and am recording three more tracks for the new album which is still on schedule to be released some time this fall. Today I'm getting the intro for the album done and two more bangin' tracks including one featuring S. Money entitled Vodka and Redbull. There was a little trouble getting that beat which almost led me to taking the track off the album, but it's all worked out now. Basically I wrote the whole track about a month or two ago but didn't bother to look into buying the beat until about two weeks ago. When I went to buy it the beat had already been purchased by someone else. Basically using the beat after it had been bought would bring the risk of being sued, which aint exactly what I want, so I talked with the producer of the beat ( Swollen Drumz) and we eventually worked something out. TOG of Swollen Drumz Productions came up with an amazing remix to the beat which will now be used for the album. It's one of my favorite tracks it just sucks it was wicked close to being cut from the cd.

Time to hit up the studio now, but figured I'd give a few updates on the album.

Justin Nozuka: LISTEN TO EM'!!

I thought I'd take some time out to let you guys in on a dude I been listening to a lot lately. Justin Nozuka is a soul/blues/R & B singer from Toronto, Canada. He has one of the best voices I heard in a while and dude has some dope concepts put into his songs. If you enjoy this style of music at all I urge you to give him a listen and you will not be dissapointed. His biggest song out now which is getting some play on MTV and other video channels is After Tonight. I got his whole album and other tracks like Golden Train, Therapy Man, and the amazing story telling track Save Him also contribute to a very solid debut album. Oh Yeah, and he is only 19.

Best Voice in Music

Just Playing.

So yesterday I broke down what I believe is the best top 10 best voices in rap music. Many things were taken into consideration including vocal range, style, and the originality they use in their voice. Simply having an amazing voice didn't mean they mad the list. Now today I attempted (and I do say attempted because I'm sure there is a few talented people I left out) to break down the best voices in music in general. I couldn't stick with just top 10 because music is such a wide category. I'm going to apologize now to all the die-hard Opera fans, because I'm not a huge fan so I left all the popular Opera singers out(I know, you're shocked). That may bring my readers down from like 6 to 5, but oh well. lol. I'm pretty new to listening to country music too, so unfortunately there isn't anyone from that genre either. But regardless, check out the list, and let me know if I forgot someone you consider the best or if you think I'm way off on one of my opinions.

20. Bono (U2)

The guy goes by one name. he's gotta be good. Nah, really though, Bono has got an incredible unique voice and he often sings for a cause too.

19. Serj Tankian (System of a Down)

Most people will disagree with this one, but I am not limiting this list to the typical singers. Serj has a crazy range and is one of the best "screamers" along with packing the ability to sing normally as good as anyone. I can't imagine how much screaming like that would kill your vocal chords, but he's been doing it for years and is the best of the best in his style of music.

18. Bob Marley

While he clearly does not have the best voice in the world, it is unique and very recognizable. His voice also represents a whole movement and nation which even the best can't say of their voice.

17. Eric Burdon ( The Animals)

If you were to see this guy walking down the street, you would never expect this little man to have such a booming, bluesy voice. But he does, and it's one of the best in the biz. You probably know him best from the best version (in my opinion) of The House of the Rising Sun.

16. John Foggerty (Creedence Clearwater Revival)


He isn't going to bless an R&B track any time soon, but his voice is incredible. It is one of the most distinct there is and I've seen him live and he is just as good in person.

15. Shakira


You Can't go wrong with those hips. Or that Accent. Or that voice. Not only can she sing in two different languages, she does it very well.

14. Ray Charles

He is another artist like Bob Marley who may not have THE BEST voice, but it's unique sound and style is what make their voice so incredible.

13. Aretha Franklin

Her voice defines soul. Enough said.

12. Kurt Cobain (Nirvana)

He and his voice alone started an entire movement. While hardcore grunge fans will say Gavin Rossdale (Bush) should have made this list over him, Kurt's style of singing makes up for any lack of a voice he has (not much)

11. Elvis

Although Elvis may have stole much of his style from black artists, it is hard to deny his amazing voice, and the style he had whether or not it is originally his... One line from him had any girl willing to do whatever, and that's a voice that any guy I know would pray to have.

10. Little Richard

He along with Chuck Berry were probably the two biggest artists in creating what we now know as Rock and Roll. He also happens to be one of probably the top 5 musical performers ever.

9. Mariah Carey

She may be annoying as hell but she hits notes like nothing I've ever heard.

8. B.B. King

If Aretha's voice defines soul, then B.B. King's voice defines Blues. You truly feel every word the man speaks, and at 130 or wuteva age he is now, he is still out singing these young dudes.

7. Whitney Houston

Ok so she's a crackhead. If crack could make everyone sing like that, we'd be in trouble. (at least I would be)

6. Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin)

He was lead singer of one of the most popular bands of all time and his scream is infamous.

5. Steven Tyler (Aerosmith)

For anyone that has heard Steven Tyler before his vocals gave out they are truly lucky. This dude has a very unique singing style that can't really be matched by anyone. It may be hard for people to accept he has one of the best voices ever, but if you take a close listen to his music, you'll see what I mean.

4. Justin Timberlake

I'm sorry for those who hate JT that he is this high on the list. But the guy can flat out sing! Even back when he was N Sync he out-shined his band-mates by miles. Some may say he sounds like a chick but I don't care if it sounds like a girl or dude singing it, it sounds amazing.

I know a lot of people who hate on Queen. But, Freddie Mercury has probably the best range of a male singer you will ever find. To top it all he never had any vocal training in his life.

I've honestly never heard anything close to her talent when I hear her sing. She has a four Octave range (better than Mercury's incredible 3) and it really does give me chills when I hear her hitting certain notes. It's crazy that talent comes from a tiny white girl. Celine Dion has praised her as the greatest vocalist in the world and Axl Rose agreed she was one of the greatest of our time. If you appreciate a good voice, watch a live performance of Christina's please. lol. Plus she's hot.

I've been thinking lately about who has the best voices in music... so i decided id make two different blogs about it... one for rappers and one for singers. a lot comes into play including delivery...
range...style and originality... so here it is:

BEST VOICE ( RAPPERS)

10. Missy Elliot

As the only female on the rappers list, I tried to find a picture that was somewhat attractive of her, and sorry this is the best I could do... But looks aside Missy has a crazy range in her voice and a rediculous flow that matches most dudes. Her style she raps with is not only recognizable but incredibly original as well.

9. Nelly I'M sure i'll get some haters on this one, but lets be real. First of all his first album Country Grammar had about 5 number one singles on it, making it the best selling rap album of all time at the moment. Also, the dude can sing and rap, collaborating with Kelly Rowland and Garth Brooks singing. He also has a very distinct voice, who else u heard even close to his style (don't say chingy, he's a rider.)


8. Prodigy
If you like the real deal gutter hip hip, Prodigy and his voice define it. He is one of them few rappers that will say some hardcore shit and sound completely believable. He might not be the rapper with the most street cred in the world, but he sure sounds like it.

7. 2pacFrom tracks like Dear Momma and Changes to songs like California Love it's clear 2pac has incredible range. He can do deep poetic joints to the hard stuff, and his voice suits them both. Not to mention my mom, who does not listen to rap at all, has heard him on the radio and said wow I love this guys voice. If my mom says that, it's saying something people....

6. Mr. CheeksYou non-hardcore hip hop fans probably won't know why the hell this guy is on the list. In fact, you probably only know Cheeks from his Lights Camera Action solo joint he had out like 5 years ago. But believe me, he deserves to be on this list. Think back to the song Renee. Lost Boyz. Yup, thats Cheeks. He's been doing the rap thing for a minute and has a dope voice perfect for story telling and laid back tracks.

5. Jadakiss
His raspy ass voice is one of a kind. Forget his little annoying laugh, dude can straight spit some gutter shit, and he doesn't sound too terrible on the mainstream either.

4. Lil Wayne

Many of you probably don't know this, but I don't like Lil Wayne too much. I think dude puts out wayyyy too much bullshit, and despite his incredible talent, the amount of wack shit he puts out out weighs the good. But thats just me. Either way, from his wobbely-wobbely flow until now, he has had his own unique delivery and has earned his right to be on this list.

3. BiggieNot many people, never mind rappers, have a booming voice like Biggie did. I would absolutely love to hear his flow and delivery over modern production. That would truly be some cool shit to see a rapper like him on some crazy timbo shit. plus he has arguably the most recognizable voice int he game. Nuff Said.

2. Method Man

He has the smoothest delivery there ever was. Incredible voice, maybe not the best most distinctive flow, but probably the best voice in general. I can;t put him at one though for the simple fact that he just doesn't send shivers through your spine like my number one dude does.

1. DMX
Ok lets get this clear: DMX FELL WAYYYY OFFFF! But for those old enough to remember dude in his prime, he had the Most gutter voice in the game. By far. Never had a dude said I will fuck you up and meant it more. You could feel the pain in his voice. People were scared for they lives when he'd scream, and shit, his ad libs were something else. Who else could bark on a song and get away with it? DMX in his prime had the best voice in rap music. period.

Runners Up: Redman, ODB, Da Brat, Eminem, KRS ONE, Q Tip

The Man Behind the Music

Wutup Wutup!?

So yea thought I'd basically take the time in this post to tell people a little bit about me seeing unless you know me personally you probably don't know much about me at all. For those who don't give a shit and just like the music, feel free to skip reading this post lol...

So to start off real name Greg Perry, im 21 and a senior in Iona College in New Rochelle, NY. Im studying advertising but who knows if thats what I want to do lol. My main goal would be to be able to support myself financially off music some day. Music is basically my life whether it's writing it or listening to it, i'm almost always doing one or the other. I don't remember exactly when I got my start writing music, but I think I started messing around back in middle school. The summer going into 8th grade is when I started rapping, freestyling with my friend Digits on the bus or wherever. We formed a group called the Klip Artistz in 9th grade and started making songs, but nothing too serious. It wasn't until the end of junior year in High School and the beggining of senior year when I actually realized what I wanted to do with music. That's when I started making real songs and writing constantly. I'm actually pretty pissed at myself that I didn't get serious earlier, cuz who knows where I would be now if I had a few extra years of serious writing. Either way yea thats pretty much how I got started...

More about me personally I'm a fan of all music. In fact, lately I barely listen to much rap besides Joe Budden, Lupe Fiasco and a few other dudes. I'm huge into the blending of genres such as Linkin Park and this underground group called Optimus Rhyme. I'm hoping some day soon I can form an actual group with live instruments and shit like that. Live music is so dope and I think me rapping over that type of thing could deff work out ill. Lately I've been huge into blues such as The Black Keys and The Raconteurs. These groups are dope if you want more contemporary blues type music but still got that old school soul. I realize a lot of people when they are younger are afraid to listen to the "different" types of music because it aint cool and you feel left out if you don't know every word to Lil Waynes new hit, but I urge people to listen to all they can, cuz there is A LOT of good shit out there you will never hear unless you search. The Radio plays like less then 1 percent of all the music out there, and i'd say out of the 99 percent you havn't heard, you would probably love close to 30 percent of the shit you can't find on your local stations.

ok yea enough of me rambling on about stuff, i'll just give u a list of favorites of mine to make this easy...

Recording Session... RATEYOUR DEMO

So unfortunately I only got to record three songs the other day when I planned on getting about 6 done. But, on the other hand all three joints came out pretty hot so i can't complain. I got She's Gone, which is now featured on my myspace, Words Can't Describe, and The School of the Drugs done. Each are pretty hot lyrically with interesting stories behind them. So look out for all those in the future and def check out She's Gone and let me know your thoughts.

In other things I recently came across the website RateYourDemo.com. It's basically a site where for as little as 30 bucks you can send up to 10 songs to get reviewed by big names such as Cool and Dre. There is also sections for music besides just hip hop and rap, so I suggest if anyone wants a good honest non biased review of their music, it's worth throwing down 30 bucks to see what professionals think of your work. I submitted 10 songs, some of which I havn't actually released to the public but yea: Crying, What's it Gonna Be, If You Wanna Ride, Dumb Politics, Hard Times, Bouncin, Show You What I Mean, Words Can't Describe (unreleased), She's Gone, and Stuck. I should get the review back in about two weeks, So i'll let you know how that went...

Back At It!

Whats good everybody? I want to first apologize that I have not posted in like forever but I been busy as hell. Right after coming back from Australia I went right to the Grand Canyon in Arizona for a week. It was absolutely gorgeous to say the least, and even up close in personal it looks like a painting or something. I went with my Uncle Chris, sister, and my cousin Josh which was dope to catch up with all of them since I hadn't hung out with them in a few months really since I was in Australia. It's good to be home but I miss OZ land already. Just a dope atmosphere over there which i'm not really sure traveling there for a few days could really show. But after 5 months, you really start thinking and acting with that relaxed attitude.

Anyways, back to music. I'm pumped (shout out to Nodak and Minnesotta for use of that word) to be getting back in the studio tomorrow. I've got about 5-6 tracks to do, all in which I got very high hopes for. My favorite I will be recording tomorrow is called 'Words Can't Describe' so definitely look out for that either on the myspace page or on the new album when it comes out. It's got potential to turn out as my favorite track on all of Crocodile Tears depending on how nice the mixing and that shit goes.

I got a few other songs for the album to record tomorrow, including one that is on some different shit by the title of 'Give me Sight (She's Gone)'. There is a lot of singing on there which is new to me in the studio besides the song 'Kill that Bitch' I did with Grafite. If you have not heard that, check out Graf's myspace. For those who don't know much about Grafite, he is a friend of mine from High School. We both had heard that one another rapped but wern't really friends until I think Junior year where we had some class together. We spent every class talking music bell to bell and since then have been collaborating on shit. He's a good dude so I urge people to support his shit cuz he can bring some hot lyrics all day.

The last few songs I'm recording are just verses for other peoples shit. I'm working with Iconn doing a verse for one of his tracks, and I'm doing a verse on this contest Remedy Productions is putting out. Remedy (i call him Kenny Keyz) is a dope producer from Maine. You may know some his work such as my track 'Bouncin' off The Whisper Campaign or some of the things he has done with Hard Target. He is still pretty young too, so watch out for Remedy.

ALMOST HOME

So yea in case you didn't know this, I've been in Australia for the last 5 months, but i'm finally going to be going home. It's been by far the best time of my life so for anyone considering studying abroad, if you get the chance I think you'd be stupid to turn it down because it's an amazing experience.

Anyways i'm gonna miss the fuck out of this place, but at the same time I can't wait to get back in the studio, to some Red Sox games and back home with my friends. Like I mentioned in an earlier post I plan on calling my next album Crocodile Tears, and am currently doing a lot of writing for the album. I have a bunch of ideas and concepts along with songs already recorded the toughest part will be piecing together the album. The biggest issue with me is making an album that stays pretty consistent as far as it comers to style and lyrical content in order to help establish my own "style" more in order to be more recognizable. I've had conversations with people such as 730 from Hiphopgame.com and he told me he loved my stuff, but in order to become a bigger name having a distinct "Rumorz" sound is very important. I don't totally agree with him, because I believe my versatility is part of what makes my music what it is, but I can definitely see what he means. When you hear a Wu Tang track, u know it's them. If I continue with fast rap songs, then slower serious, and then other all metaphorical and deeper concepts it will be tough for someone to realize it's the same artist unless they have already came to recognize my voice.

So yea basically this album is me slowly trying to blend all my styles and deliveries into one. I have came to the realization that most likely this album will still not be completely one style because as a writer i'm not ready to let go of some of the deliveries and styles just yet. But hopefully by the end of this cd people will be able to start recognizing 'Rumorz" more and more for certain traits in the music.

so yea just an update on that, and i'm curious what everyone else thinks about the issue of developing a distinct "Rumorz" sound. Is it necessary? What do you think my style is?

Thailand

What peoples? Sorry I have not updated in over a week, but I was busy living life up in Thailand. I must say Bangkok is by far the craziest place I have ever been, and the island of Phuket is by far one of the most beautiful. What a contrast. I spent the first few days in Bangkok, which is the smelliest place on earth. It smells like sewage pretty much everywhere. Luckily the uniqueness of the city keeps your mind off it most the time. I went and saw the Grand Palace which was absolutely breathtaking. That whole building is priceless and a must see if you ever get to Thailand.
Also check out the floating markets, a bunch of markets which are on a big ass canal. Its pretty sick you don't even got to leave your canoe to get cool shyt. I can't really stress enough how crazy the city is though. ANYTHING GOES. Ping Pong shows (women shooting them out their...), Transvestites(be careful if you're ordering a prostitute) and anything you can think of goes on there. It's fukin insane.

It was also insane how me and my friends got treated there. We were like fuckin celebrities. Every show we went to they brought me and my friends up to rap/sing with them and the crowd loved us. it was sick. Once we got to Phuket, we all just relaxed for the next few days. No homo but I saw by far the prettiest sunset I can imagine there and there isn't much I can say to describe how nice the beaches were.

Australian Music

Since I've spent that last 4 months in Australia, I figured it would be cool to put some of you people back in the states onto some Australian music. There is a lot of good shyt in the music scene here, both in the local scene along with on the mainstream level. The city im staying in Fremantle is basically a haven for artists and young musicians, and pretty much every bar u walk into will live live music, which im probably gonna miss more than anything...

But yea check out some of the dopest acts coming out of Australia:

Xavier Rudd

Xavier Rudd is perhaps one of the most talented musicians there are. He sings, plays guitar, drums, and the Didgeridoo practically all at the same time. He is had moderate success in America but not nearly the same love he has received in Australia. I was actually lucky enough to see him live at the Blue and Roots concert which was held here a few months back. The only way to get a true feeling of how talented this guy is would be to hear/see him play, so check out the link below of his appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel show a while back.

The Potbelleez

If you are a fan of House music, there is plenty of that Down Under as well. This group in particular has a song entitled "Don't Hold Back" which was by far the most popular song of the summer (our winter) here. I don't even like techno shit but after a while of hearing this song everywhere u go, it really grows on you...

These three guys are extremely talented, and like Rudd us a variety of strange instruments which you rarely see used in normal music ( Banjo, Cello etc...) If you are fans of Jack Johnson and guys like that than you will probably enjoy John Butler's music.

These are just a few of the hottest acts coming out of Australia. As far as the rap scene goes, there really is a lacking of one. Thew few artists you will find in my opinion are no good. However, if you like the laid back chill music and a little bit of funk then Australia is booming with that type of shit.

The Best Worst Rappers

So I was listening to an old Birdman(Baby of cash money) song earlier today and it got me thinking about how many bad rappers there are. Not like 14 yr old white kid doing it because it's the latest trend bad, but like Single A baseball players on the same field as pros bad. Anyways, I figured I'd compile a list of the Best Worst Rappers in the game. Check it:

5. P. Diddy/Sean Combs/Puff Daddy-

So Yea, I don't know what's worse his rapping or his ability to stick with one rap name, but you can't hate Diddy. He's the best entrepreneur in the game (yes better then Jay Z) and pays all types of money for people to ghost write his stuff, and he still doesn't come hard. And hey, he always makes sure his albums aren't terrible, so I give him credit for that.

4. Mike Jones

This dude is fuckin' hilarious. I can't believe he got big by saying his phone number on his songs repeatedly, or yelling his name in weird ways. But shit, he makes me laugh whenever I hear him, I just wish he would come out with a really serious song. That would be funny shit. Regardless I think it's funny that some of the serious artists like Bun B will actually do tracks with this guy, so he gotta be doing something right.

3. Birdman/Baby

So yea he is pretty bad and Lil Wayne probably writes all his shit, but I don't really hate hearing him rap like some of the other guys on this list. He was at the forefront of the whole Bling Bling era back in the day, and shit, even old people know what 'bling' is now, not to mention he does more tracks with "the best rapper alive since the best rapper retired" then anyone, so props Birdman.

2. Fat Joe

I only ever initially liked Fat Joe because Big Pun, and now I only listen to him when he is on a track with Rick Ross/Akon/Lil Wayne etc... So I gotta say this guy knows the importance of putting himself with good company. He always has sick fuckin' beats and makes songs with good artists, but i dunno something about him is off. He isn't terrible but he just ain't good. I dunno. Next...

1. Snoop Dogg

Snoop is the fuckin' man. He is far superior than the other rappers on this artist, but I still wanted him up here cuz I wouldn't consider him a rapper. I think the best part about him is how is personality is so evident in his music. He's a 6.4 pothead who is smooth as hell and funny as fuck. What's not to love with Snoop? Updates

I figured before I got into a daily routine of different discussions on this site I'd give everyone a little update about what I've been doing for the last couple of months. Since Mid-February I've been studying abroad in Fremantle, Western Australia, Australia. It has been fuckin' sick to say the least, dope live music, amazing bars, women, and weather. Sadly, I've had to do a little bit of schoolwork in between the partying, but fuck it, it's worth it to be here. I'm coming towards the end of my time here, and it's going to suck to go back, but at the same time, I can't wait to get back up in the studio.

Within that time New Era Ent. has came out with Takeover 2 featuring tracks by Me, $. Money, Roc and the whole New Era squad. I actually have not heard the final product, but most of the tracks I heard were on point, so I suggest getting a hold of a copy of that if you get the chance.

In terms of writing, I've been working on my second album which I've decided to call 'Crocodile Tears'. I already have about 10 songs recorded from before I came to Australia, and I've written a bunch more since I've been here, but I'm planning on having about 15 tracks of solid shit, so this summer I will be recording about 20 more songs and then cutting down the 30 tracks to the 15 hottest/most relevant for the album. I want to get more features on there from a few different artists I havn't worked with yet, but still want to get the usuals on there as well ( S.dot, Grafite, Roc etc...)

Anyways let me know what you think about the name Crocodile Tears or anything you feel like sharing, hit me up...
